Talking to dad

I talked to dad, Bill McKee, a little about our family.  He told me some more stories that I need to put in my Family Tree Maker software.  But at this moment I can't really remember what the story was about.  I gotta think about it.  Hmmm...

Genealogy Class

Yesterday I attended a genealogy class at the local library.  It was the third and final class in the series.  It was about military records and land/will records.  A guy from Pikes Peak Genealogical Society taught the class.  He was very imformative and kept on subject.  I thought he was a good teacher.  He gave us a to do list for researching your family history.  I plan on implementing that sheet into my work.  I didn't know that you could find so much information about your ancestor from military records.  He recommends order the complete packet so you get all the muster cards and any other records from their service.
I don't know if I have many military service members in my tree but I'm sure going to check and make sure.  You just never know.  They might have served and you didn't even know it.
I asked the teacher about Native American records during a break.  Grandma Sylvia Marie Pontious used to say that she had some indian in her so I want to find out if it's true.  The teacher told me that indian records were scarce especially before the revolutionary war.
I was listening to a podcast earlier today and found out that indians were supposed to do a census annually but sometimes it didn't happen.  I guess Ancestry.com has those records so later tonight I'm going to do some looking.

Just reading right now

I'm just reading "Complete Idiot's Guide to Genealogy".  Borrowed it from the library last time I was there.  I have the third and final genealogy class this Sunday.  Can't wait.  I learn so much.

Wondering

I've been having a hard time deciding what line or person I would like to research.  I find all of it so fascinating and just want to learn more about everyone.  I know I need to pick a person and go from there.  I search a little bit for my great grandfather Galen O. Nailer.  His father's line is very easy but his mother's line has some dead ends.   Then the next day I decide to search my great grandma Pontious, Ethel Florence Higgins, and her line.  But I cannot find any information on her or her parents.  I was told all through my childhood that Grandma Marie, Ethel's daughter,  was native american but I can't find any information on that.  My cousin Sherri said she heard that there might be greek on the Pontious side but haven't found that either.  Grandma Marie's full name is Sylvia Marie Pontious from Effingham, Illinois.  Maybe I should start there since it's such a mystery.

Frustrations

I have been so busy with the family stuff that I haven't been able to work on my genealogy.  Courtney's baby is due any day, Dakota's birthday was this past weekend and Larry was out of town for a week.  The school keeps me busy.  I wish I just had a week to do what I wanted to do.  I will make it down there someday.
